DAY BY DAY JOURNEY
Day 1: Arrive Nairobi
JAMBO – KARIBU!! It is ‘touch down’ at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. It is a tradition in Africa to present a gift as an expression of our joy and happiness – what better gift than an authentic safari hat and other safari essentials! You will then be transferred to The Movenpick Hotel and Residences for a two night stay. Afterwards, enjoy lunch at La Mesa restaurant.
You will then walk across to Yoga Heart Kenya for a yoga session and the opportunity to spend a couple of invigorating and rejuvenating hours practicing yoga. Once the yoga session is completed, you will return back to the hotel for some much needed relaxation time and overnight. (L)
Day 2: Nairobi
Enjoy an early morning yoga session before breakfast. Thereafter, proceed to the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. This centre has played a significant role in Kenya’s conservation efforts. The baby elephants are brought from the national park for a mud-bath at the orphanage, where for an hour (i.e. 1100hrs – 1200hrs) you can get close to them and sometimes touch them.
Afterwards, visit the renowned Giraffe Centre, an educational centre and part of the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife. The centre has a small herd of Rothschild’s Giraffe which are an endangered species and you will get a chance to feed them and if you are lucky you might even get a kiss.
Enjoy lunch at the Karen Blixen coffee garden and proceed to explore the Karen Blixen Museum for a glimpse into the fascinating world of this pioneer coffee farmer, who achieved world fame through her highly acclaimed memoir, “Out of Africa.” She left Africa after a series of personal tragedies and her lovely colonial house has been preserved as a museum. Set in expansive gardens, the Karen Blixen Museum is an interesting place to wander around.
Later, visit the Kazuri Bead Factory- Kazuri meaning ‘small and beautiful’ in Swahili, makes exquisite handmade ceramic beads, jewelry and pottery. Established more than 25 years ago, over the years it has given a number of near-destitute women an important livelihood. You can watch all processes of the beads being made at the workshop, a finely dexterous process, and there’s also a shop. The designs are colorful and bold, reflecting Kenya’s culture and wildlife. Later you will be transferred to your hotel to freshen up and transferred for dinner to Nyama Mama Restaurant. Return to the hotel for overnight. (B,L,D)
Day 3: Nairobi – Masai Mara
After breakfast, you will be picked up from the hotel and transferred to the Wilson Airport for your domestic flight to the famous Masai Mara Game Reserve. You will be amazed by the wonderful scenery and the amount of game that this game reserve offers. It is perhaps the only region left in Kenya where the visitor may see animals in the same super-abundance that existed a century ago. Mara game reserve shares the same ecosystem with the neighboring vast Serengeti National park of Tanzania where animals move freely between the two conservation areas with the wildebeest migration having central migratory herds of over 1.3 million wildebeest as the major crossing. Upon arrival at the airstrip, you will be met by your camp’s driver guide with vehicle and proceed to arrive at Mara Intrepids Camp for a three night stay and in time for lunch. Enjoy some rest and leisure before heading out for an afternoon game viewing drive; be on the look-out for the big five that Maasai Mara is famous for; these include the lion, savannah (African) elephant, the Cape buffalo, the leopard and the black rhino. Later return to camp for dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)
Days 4: Masai Mara Game Reserve
Enjoy two full days of morning and afternoon game viewing starting with a breakfast at your Camp. The rolling plains and grasslands, stretching far into the horizons as far as the eye can see are home to the black-manned lion, the savannah elephant, the Cape buffalo, wildebeests, the elusive leopard, cheetah, the spotted & stripped hyena, the rhino, topi, Burchelle’s zebra and the Maasai giraffe among many others. The Mara game reserve is one that can never disappoint. One is spoiled by the variety of bird and wildlife species in this game reserve.
You have the opportunity to enjoy early morning and afternoon yoga sessions (these sessions can be scheduled at your group’s convenience); the perfect way to loosen the muscles, after the bumpy yet thrilling game viewing drives.
On one of the afternoons, enjoy a visit to a traditional Masai Manyatta (off the beaten track) to experience the culture of this world famous community. The Masai still live as they did for centuries. Interact with these nomadic people and experience their way of life as you learn about their customs and traditions. (B,L,D)
Day 5: Masai Mara Game Reserve – Optional Hot Air Balloon Safari
Today’s adventure begins just before dawn. Flames from the hot air balloon’s burners light the darkness as the crew inflates their craft. The first, pink tongues of sunlight flicker across the skies and the hot air balloon fills then rises. Suspended in a basket beneath the rainbow-colored canopy, you’re off for a game-viewing adventure with an entirely different perspective. Apart from the occasional hiss of the burners, a lion’s roar, elephants crashing through the bush, baboons perched in the tips of the trees startled and screeching to see something above them, the flight above the Masai Mara plains is magically silent. At the end of the flight, the passengers are treated to a champagne breakfast in the bush, complete with flowers. China and crystal are set out on the table that is placed under a convenient acacia tree. The finishing touch to the flight is a game drive back to the camp, and the possibility of seeing the same pride of lions, or herd of elephants that had been viewed while ballooning. A flight certificate is issued on completion of the balloon safari. Back at camp enjoy a sumptuous lunch and a well deserved rest. Should you choose not to go hot air ballooning you will be able to go on a morning game drive instead. (B,L,D)
Day 6: Masai Mara – Watamu
This morning enjoy breakfast then head off on your last trail of the African savannah – hopefully, you’ll see some big game. Return to the camp for lunch and checkout. You will then be transferred to the airstrip for your flight to Malindi. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your The Temple Point Resort for a three night stay. Enjoy dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)
Days 7 & 8: Watamu, Temple Point Resort
Enjoy these days at leisure lounging by the pool or on the beach. Water sports and other optional activities can always be arranged directly from the hotel at an additional charge. Meals and overnight at the beach resort. You will also have the opportunity to schedule early morning and evening yoga sessions, depending on your preference. (B,L,D)
Day 9: Watamu – Nairobi Departure
After breakfast check out of the hotel and proceed to the Malindi airport for your flight to Nairobi, where you will connect on. (B)
